I am getting so sick of seeing people commenting on photos from the fashion industry claiming they’re “teaching young girls” that they need to be skinny, that girls need a thigh gap, that it’s unhealthy to be promoting that. No. Stop blaming what society and the media did on the fashion world. Yes, the majority of shoots and shows are going to be done with extremely slim girls, but they’re not saying every girl should be like this. The industry isn’t there to portray a certain body type to women, it’s there to sell clothes. You’re not meant to be looking at the model, you’re meant to be looking at the clothes. The model is hired to make the clothes look as good and memorable as possible. So when people with no knowledge at all of the business come along saying that the fashion industry should show women of larger sizes to promote healthy body imagery, it’s just ridiculous. Their job is to sell clothes, not be the sole role models for women. So please go ahead and redirect all this hate to the real culprit: the media.
